Imagine this, you are sitting in class on May 29 as you await the bell to ring, signaling freedom from school for the next two and a half months. You think to yourself, ‘what should I do with my life during the summer break.’ You decide to get a summer job, but how do you know what seasonal job is best for you?
Step 1:
Consider your interests, what do you like to do? If you want to work during the summer, it should at least be a job you enjoy.
Step 2:
Think about how long you plan to work at that job, whether you only want to work for the summer or keep the job even after school starts again.
Step 3:
Create a resume that summarizes your primary qualifications, such as relevant experience or skills.
Step 4:
Search for jobs online that would suite your schedule and most importantly your skill set, some jobs require you to be a certain age or have certain experience in the field.
“No, I don’t get paid what I deserve, and my boss is mean,” Sophomore Christopher Ezzio said.
Ezzio shows a dislike for his current job and how he does not get paid what he deserves and how his boss does not show respect for him. So, it is important to investigate the job you want to apply for ahead of time, to make sure you get paid what you deserve.
Step 5:
Schedule an interview with the employer of the job that you are most interested in. To prepare for an interview it is important to dress the part, wear something nice, think business casual, an employer will take you more seriously in professional attire.
Step 6:
If you do not hear back about the job after two weeks try to contact the company’s human resources department to make sure they did not forget about your interview and or job application.
Don’t let a job rejection get you down, sometimes certain jobs just aren’t for you, and that’s okay; eventually you will find a job that suits you.
