Are you considering becoming a teacher in the future, but want to know the lifestyle and what really goes on behind the scenes? Follow this day in the life of East High School Spanish teacher Jennyfer Naranjo and get the scoop on her daily life as a teacher.
Morning
Mrs. Naranjo starts her day at around 7 – 7:15 a.m. After she wakes up, she gets dressed, packs her lunch and is soon off and on her way to East High School. Mrs. Naranjo’s day starts when she gets to school, which is usually around 7:50 a.m. Once she gets to East, she makes a cup of coffee and gets ready for her classes. Preparing for classes consists of putting together slides for the day, printing off papers and cleaning up and organizing around the classroom.
“If I’m here at 7:50 I am starting to like, print out any papers that I need, I’m usually setting up my daily slide on the white-board for students that has their daily agenda, and then I organize desks if I need to, I clean up if I have to and that’s how I usually start my school day,” Naranjo said.
Afternoon
Now, while her mornings are usually the same routine, her afternoons are always something different.
“So, it’s very different, it really depends on the day,” Naranjo said. She never spends her lunch alone though, always either having students in her classroom eating lunch with her or with another teacher in their room eating and discussing lesson plans.
“My lunch always consists of students in my classroom, so I never have lunch on my own,” Naranjo said.
Evening
Towards the end of the day things seem to die down again. As the time gets closer to 3:45 p.m. Mrs. Naranjo prepares to go home and end her school day.
“Some days I will leave right at 3:45 and then there’s other days I’m here until 4:30- 5 p.m., even 6 p.m. sometimes,” Naranjo said.
“I try to separate my work and my personal life,” Naranjo said.
After school, Mrs. Naranjo wraps up her day by going home and winding down. To wind
down she puts on comfortable clothes, starts on making her dinner for her and her husband, and lunch for the next day. She then puts on a tv show and chills out before bed.
