What is Owala? Owala is a very popular water bottle brand that comes close in the race next to Stanley, and its brand originally launched in March 2020. However, the brand didn’t start getting popular until around mid-2023 when their 24oz FreeSip bottle gained popularity on certain media platforms like TikTok.
Why is it named Owala? Is there a story behind it? Well, many theories by Owala users say it’s because when you sip it makes you look like a koala due to the lid and how it’s made, but is it coincidental, or just a theory?
“The colors were very eye-catching to me, and it came in a nice size,” Owala user Jenna Stevens said.
The FreeSip bottle has many great features, and the one that makes this bottle different than most other water bottles is the mouthpiece. To use it, hold the bottle upright to sip through the built-in straw or tilt your head back to drink through the wide mouth opening.
But what about its price? The prices for the Owala bottles can vary from $ 27.99 – $ 37.99. What else does Owala offer? Well, the other types of water bottles they have are the twist FreeSip, the FreeSip Tritan (clear bottle), and even a kids 16oz FreeSip. The bottles come in all colors, along with certain collabs like the most recent with Marvel, a spider man FreeSip bottle with the signature colors and a small web on the side of the bottle.
“I’ve never really had any other brands, but I personally think this is the best one,” Owala user Hailey Htoo said.
Lots of controversy stands between Owala and Stanley. Popular for obvious reasons, they both have lots of great features, but they also have lots of cons when it comes to owning a water bottle.
“They can scratch easily, leak if you over fill your water bottle and the mouthpiece can get dirty fast,” Htoo said.
One the website, Owala has multiple helpful features, one showing what other people purchase when they purchase Owala’s, and one of those items is a cleaning brush. With a cleaning brush, you can clean the inside easily and scrub away all the bacteria. With the lid, there is a detachable rubber piece (gasket) on the lip where it keeps it airtight, but mold and other bacteria can grow in it if it’s not removed and cleaned.
The Stanley is a very popular brand, and it has made its appearance in media like TikTok and Instagram, making it a top discussion between many people.
“It’s decently priced. Everything these days is expensive. But based on other water bottles on the market I would say it could be priced lower for the fact that it has easily dented but it does have other cons, color and cleaning ability justify it being a higher price,” Stevens said.

“It’s probably the best brand I’ve had because it keeps ice cold for a long time,” Stanley user Nora Baugh said.
Stanley has become popular worldwide due to the size and the colors it comes in. It also has lot accessories like a straw topper to keep bacteria out that could be in the air. What people would call a “bottle boot”, is another accessory it comes with, supposedly to keep the insulated bottle from falling or sliding on a flat surface, along with keeping the paint looking clean and brand new with the thick silicone.
“Cute options,” Stanley user Arisbeth Sanchez said. There are lots of options that the Stanley website has for a water bottle, and many are cute. You can get a water bottle in all shapes and sizes, colors and designs, and it can be made just for you.
The price for the 40oz Stanley quencher is $ 45.00, the 30oz quencher is $ 35.00, the 20oz IceFlow quencher is $ 30.00, those are the most popular water bottles on the market.
The Stanley doesn’t have as many options as Owala does but its variety of color and collabs goes much farther. An example of one of their collabs is the barbie x Stanley collab, a glittery pink with vinyl lettering that reads barbie, along with a pink handle, straw and lid.
