Alex Beveridge has been doing debate since middle school moving into his sixth year in the activity. Joining with his friends to get involved and learning he had a talent in debating and continuing the program into his high school years. “Middle school was when I first started. I got involved because I had friends at Weeks Middle School who were in the program, and I found out I had a talent for arguing and it was fun. This is my six year in the activity,” Alex Beveridge said.
Alex Beveridge’s talent and hard work in debating has accomplished him in getting national qualifier twice in debate. “I am a two-time national qualifier which was an incredible feeling because it was a lot of hard work and effort paying off into a huge accomplishment. It is all about what you can bring as your own person. Every accomplishment requires both effort and to work with the people around you. Anyone can be good with practice, and it allows for both personal improvement and growth in a bunch of important skills like research and speaking,” Alex Beveridge said.
Alex Beveridge’s talent for doing theater as a school activity started when he joined. Stepping up and working as a stage manager and helping with film editing, enjoying his time being stage manager, taking responsibility and leadership into his role. Helping produce three shows with actors and tech crew. Alex Beveridge has made an amazing time in theater with his community. “I joined theater cause Mr. Allan, the theatre director, needed someone who knew about video stuff for “She Kills Monsters.” Since then, I have done projections for two shows and now I am stage manager. There is a lot to being a stage manager and it is incredibly fun. The actors and tech crew are amazing, and it is really amazing getting to work with a group of incredibly talented and driven people,” Alex Beveridge said.
Alex Beveridge has made steps in theatre that have improved for students joining and already in theatre. Learning new software for editing, assisting theater director Jammal Allan, and working with his peers. He has created a role model of himself for his peers and future theater students. “He is super useful as a stage manager. His experience and his friend Hunter Christensen did film editing working on aspects we did not always have. He took responsibility on taking projection, learning new computer software, building good foundation on going forward because he was able to pioneer and experiment with the computer programs we had so it will be easy for another student to cross that bridge next year,” Allan said.
Alex Beveridge has made films for school since his first year at East in creative writing eventually leading him into joining Central Campus film and broadcasting program making short films and editing. Going on to making four films, ads, music videos, and PSA’s “I made my first film in ninth grade for creative writing, and I have been into making films since then. I joined the film and broadcasting class in junior year at central campus. I have done anything I can get my hands on. In the last two years I have made four short films: two five minutes and two 30 minutes. I have also been working on a slate of podcasts for film and broadcasting. I have done ads, PSA’s, music videos, and trailers,” Alex Beveridge said.
Alex Beveridge spends a lot of time with his family and friends within his hobbies. Doing theater with his sister and spending time with her and making memories. “A hobby I enjoy doing with my brother is theatre and a favorite memory is having cast dinner with him for theatre. Or just hanging out in general during theater,” Rhyann Beveridge said.
