You’ve seen her on stage portraying Sister Mary Stevens in “Sister Act”, Scarecrow in “Wizard of Oz”, Veronica Sawyer in “Heathers the Musical”, and Cassie Cooper in “Rumors.” Here’s a behind the scenes look at the life of Samantha Conyers.

Over her 4 years at East High School Conyers has amassed many awards in both IHSSA and Theater including Outstanding performance in a principal role twice as both Veronica Sawyer in Heathers the Musical and Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz. In IHSSA she won all state for choral reading and musical theater. “It makes me feel like all the stress and crying was worth something. Creating things makes me believe in something bigger than myself.” Conyers said.

Conyers has been performing at East High School since her freshman year. Taking part in activities such as Choir, IHSSA and the theater department. In her senior year Conyers serves as a mentor for the underclassmen in the arts. “Sam is very inspirational. She is so kind and responsible. I look up to her she has taught me a lot since I’ve known her” Sophomore Anya Caulfield.

Conyers is going to the University of Northern Iowa and will major in both Criminology and Criminal Justice. When Conyers steps on stage she gives off an air of confidence. Her demeanor and line delivery make her seem like a professional although she’s just a high schooler. UNI should be greatful to have someone as wonderful and talented as her.
