Loud, busy, crowded halls and days that drag on and on, that is a feeling I know far too well until I found something that helped me look forward to school much more. During my freshman year, I took Journalism and I was hooked. I finally found a place at school where I could write creatively and design articles for different topics Sophomore year, I Joined newspaper. Newspaper allowed me to dive even deeper into topics I really care about while also giving me the opportunity to share my creations with everyone at East. Being in Scroll has helped me develop a lot as a person, I began to open up more, I became less shy and created unforgettable friendships.
Another amazing aspect of Scroll is the class has many opportunities for student leadership, our Editor-In-Chief is Scrolls adviser and Easts Journalism teacher, Natalie Niemeyer-Lorenz. We have student editors as well, Scroll has a Co-Editor-In-Chief, this title can be one student or multiple, this position involves reviewing or giving feedback to other students in Scroll, creating class calendars and setting deadlines for how much progress should be made at certain points, for example when rough drafts for articles should be complete. Student editors are given the opportunity to lead the class, lessons, helping peers when needed, giving directions and helping to set expectations for the class. This year I was given the opportunity to be a Co-Editor-In-Chief along with two other seniors. Being an editor has allowed me to expand my communication skills and learn to effectively and efficiently work with others within the class.
The other student editors have also shared their favorite parts about being in scroll and the impacts it has had on them. It is amazing to observe many of the experiences and feelings people in scroll share with one another, it is not just a class it is one of the many communities we have at East.

The skills I have gained through being a part of Scroll will help me in my future career, which will involve a lot of communication skills as well as collaboration with co-workers and future employers.
Scroll will always hold a special place in my heart and all the memories I have made will forever stay with me.
