Imagine you and your significant other are arguing and they push you down the stairs. Imagine giving birth at the hospital, with your newborn baby in your arms, and you tell your abusive significant other you want a divorce, and they just say ‘ok’ and everything is happily ever after. Well, this is what happens in the movie “It ends with us.” This movie has two main characters its Lily Bloom and Ryle Kincaid. Lily gets abused throughout the movie by Ryle, yet she can leave easily. This movie is unrealistic, especially for domestic abuse victims, which then can create unrealistic standards. Domestic abuse is very common, almost ten million every year are abused according to ncbi.gov . It is also difficult to be in an abusive relationship. The abusive partner could threaten the victims and make them stay, because victims may not have the resources to leave. You could have a kid with the abuser and not know what to do. In the movie they have a kid together and yet it seems so easy to leave.
When she is pregnant, the abuser goes to her house and helps build the crib. It makes it seem as if nothing happened when something did. Then when she was giving birth, the abuser was in the room with her. That is uncommon, however if a abuser and its victim had a relationship it would not be like this. It is usually just small acts of kindness.
This movie can make victims feel a certain way. The movie implies how easy its easy to leave a hard situation. This then sets unrealistic expectations. I rate this movie overall a six out of ten. It’s drama filled, just very unrealistic.
