It is a cold and cloudy day at East. You head to your PE class, your teacher Brian Luft says he is retiring. You wanted to get to know your PE teacher more and what he did during his time at East.
“How is it being a Physical Education teacher?”
“Well, I love my job. I’m really glad that kids come and want to learn and play and how it makes a really fun and interesting experience,” Luft said.
“What is one memory that will always make you think and smile?”
“I really like when we get to play with the huge and giant volleyball at the end of the year, seeing everyone smile and giggling, getting along and how many screams echo along the room,” Luft said.
“What is one moment how much he truly cared about his students?”
“When he started to play music that he wanted them to play in class. He was to let them choose the playlists for the class and letting them have control of what they were wanting to play,” Orchestra teacher Jennifer wife said.
“Does he ever say anything about his students at home? If so, what is it about?”
“He will talk about tournaments, like when they won, along the smile all along their faces,” Luft said.
“What is your favorite memory from his class?”
“When we went outside to do the CPR test, it gave us a change in a good way to get fresh while feeling the nice breeze,” junior Kiki Louis said.
“Was there a class or activity he loved that everyone remembers?”
“Playing dodgeball since everyone’s always participating and always wanting to laugh and have a great time,” Louis said.
Mr. Luft retires
From early morning warm-ups. To the last lap around the track, Mr. Luft, didn’t just teach the rules of the game. He shaped the mindset that will carry students far beyond their lives that shaped them today.
