Have you ever been on a road trip, driving with your friends or even just studying alone in your room? Does the music not feel right for you? Do you feel like you do not like the music you listen to currently? Do not worry, we will go step by step on how to find your own taste in your own music and to see what you love and what makes you want to move.
Explore different music genres!
Knowing some people get really scared trying something new, even if it is music. As a person who always listens to all kinds of music. It is always hard to even step out of what else could be out there. Some people think they will get made fun of what they will listen to or like, yet not everyone is going to find anything that was good or what if this or that. It is not about what people think, it is what you like and not to care what anyone else thinks. Always go at your own fast pace, do not rush if you feel the need to. Always slow down, take a breath, and relax. “A type of genre I didn’t think I would have liked was hip hop, when my friends showed me this one song called “Don Toliver: “brother stone” and when I listened to it, I started to like it, soon started to listen to hip hop more and soon fell in love with it,” Sophomore Madelyn Baccam said.
How do YOU feel?
Do you feel hopeful? Calm? Angry? Wanting to sway to the music? Wanting to sing along? Any way, you feel, or even how you sing or act to it, anyway, is your own way of thinking about it. This is about you. Do not think about what your friends might think of this. This is about you finding your own. Music is powerful and yet it does not even compare with popularity. It is what makes us unique. It is what makes us human and open to brand new things the world has in store for once. It will make yourself feel powerful and then again, you should be the one to feel powerful, not other people. “There was this one friend in middle school, and she introduced me with this one artist called back street boys, I don’t listen to them much now,
but when I did back in middle school, I absolutely loved the beats and the popular songs that they had as well,” junior Kimberly Torres-Marquez said.
Start creating your space!
Once you start to find some genres you like, or some songs that make you feel happy, sad, angry, loving etc… Start to sort them into playlists, they do not have to be exact with each other. The way I always tell people is that if you want to make a confident playlist, put songs that make you confident. If you want a sad playlist to make you cry, put on songs that make you cry soon. There is no judgment when it comes to music, No matter what. “Music reflects on what I have within me, who I am as a person, music should define you. Not someone else,” junior Jaylu Lee said.
This soon comes and shows us how, no matter what music you like, even if you’re not a big fan, don’t know much or then again, don’t mind it nor interested, that no matter what music can always connect people and always connect with feelings and music should never be done to make fun of people. Music connects us.
