You walk up to the second floor during third period to go to class, once you get up you look to your right and see a girl with the biggest smile hanging around her friends chatting it up, looking happy. Meet East High School senior Esmeralda Luna, who will graduate with the class of 2026.
Where did you grow up?
Luna grew up in Des Moines and has lived here for her entire life.
How have your high school years been? What was your favorite high school year?
Luna has been doing amazing things this school year. Luna’s favorite school year so far has been her junior year. “My expectations for last year were really high,” Luna said.
How has your senior year been treating you?
Luna has learned many new things while having fun. “I really do like my teachers and all my classes, especially my central classes; I have just been staying locked in and focusing primarily on school only,” Luna said.
What are your plans for after high school?
Luna’s plans are to go to a community college, most likely DMACC. “Not a university, no private university, I feel like that’s a big commitment and a waste of money. I wouldn’t say that’s the safest choice,” Luna said.
What major would you like to go into?
Luna either wants to major in information technology, accounting or something in the business field. “It’s a pretty simple field to do,” Luna said.
What are your hobbies and why?
Luna enjoys playing board games with her family. ‘’I feel like it is a very fun way to bond with my family,” Luna said. She also loves to cook, do yoga, and work out in general.
Do you have any siblings if so, how many?
She has two siblings; she has a stepsister that lives in Waukee and she has a younger brother. “Being an older sibling is definitely a good way to learn how to grow up quicker because you know your responsibilities,” Luna said.
How have your parents helped you grow as a person?
Luna believes her parents have helped her grow a lot as a person. “I think my dad really did teach me about a lot of skills about how to problem solve, they have given me the habit to fix all of my problems in school and everywhere else,” Luna said.
