Q: How has choir affected your life in a positive way?
A: “I’ve always loved to sing, I remember once I was taking a bath when I was six, and I made my own rendition of the national anthem. I don’t remember how it goes but it was great. I’ve been singing ever since I could remember. Singing has been a way to express myself, and because I didn’t have choir in middle school coming into high school and having choir was such a good escape from reality.”
Q: How has theater affected your life in a positive way?
A: “I wasn’t into theatre until my sophomore year when I did ‘The Addams Family’ at school and I was like ‘wow, this is actually kind of fun.’ But then I did community theatre, I was Mrs. Puff in the Des Moines Young Artist Theater’s rendition of ‘The SpongeBob Musical.’ And I think that really changed my mind about theatre kind of, because I didn’t have the best experience but being in the community theatre really changed my mind in a more positive way because usually when I go on stage for East, I’d be so nervous. But when I was backstage for the Des Moines Young Artist theatre I was vibrating with excitement, knowing that everyone was there and they wanted to do it, and they were all there for the exact same reason, to make people happy. Positively made my experience better and made me want to do theatre.”
Q: “What opportunities has East high brought you?”
A: “There is a thing called the solo festival and that led me to be able to work with Dr Becker who works at Drake. And it led me to be very close with her and now we know each other personally, and I’m going to drake next year so I know that she will be able to help me out. So, I’ve already made connections with a school that I’m only enrolled in and haven’t attended yet.” Q: “What will you miss most about East High School?”
A: “I think the thing I’ll miss the most is the community and my friends, they have made such a big impact on my life and I’ll miss them so much when I’ll have to graduate and I won’t see them Eight hours a day. But I know that we will always keep in touch, I think that the community at East is great. The way that everyone comes together to support everyone even in times when it’s not needed, I think that’s great, and I think being a part of Scarlet Squad really increased that feeling of community.”
Q: “What is your favorite movie and why?”
A: “I think my favorite movie has to be ‘When Harry met Sally’ When I was younger, I watched it almost every night to fall asleep. I love rom coms I feel like when you look at me you can just tell I love rom coms. It’s just the cutest thing in the world, its very fall, like its just such a cute movie.”
Q: What is your favorite food and why?
A: “My favorite food is chicken, I love chicken. It can literally go with basically anything, Its just really really good, and you can always rely on it.”
Q: What is your favorite drink and why?
A: “I love water but for soda I usually drink Diet Coke, because I’ve basically been raised on it. It’s really good, but I love water, I hate when I’m dehydrated and like I can feel it in my mouth and its sticky and gross.”
Q: what is your favorite hobby and why
A: “My favorite hobby is singing, I love to sing anywhere, everywhere, whenever, however. I sing in the shower, I sing in bed, I sing in the car. It doesn’t even have to be songs, there was this one time in my Italian class I was preparing for a test and there was this one question that I literally just could not remember the answer, and so I turned it into a song. And I started singing it and I remembered the question, and I looked behind me and the guy that was sitting behind me was just like laughing so hard at it.”
Q: “What are you doing in college?”
A: “I got into the BFA acting program, so I’m double majoring in BFA acting and public relations. Those two go really good hand in hand, by biggest dream that is kind of out of reach but as long as you keep going there is really nothing that you can’t reach. But I would love to be an actor if able, but honestly if that can’t happen, I think that you can get a lot of places with public relations. Another dream job I would love is doing PR for a company like Rhode or something that would be cool.”
Q: “What advice do you have for future scarlets?”
A: “Don’t be afraid to ask for help, I had a lot of anxiety, and I was really nervous to ask for help, and it never ended up in my favor. So, if you’re struggling with something ask your teacher or your counselor, because everyone here is here to help you and be there for you, no question is a dumb question.”
