Senior Josefina Diaz

Senior Josefina Diaz

East High School senior Josefina Diaz has had a profound impact on their peers and teachers, they spread positivity, kindness, and a sense of diligence to those around them. Diaz treats every task given to them with a sense of importance. They first joined theatre during East High School’s production of “The Addams Family musical.” Diaz always does their best to show those around them that they are the best East Scarlet they can be on the stage and in class.
“I am a part of Scarlet Squad, so I help with the freshman classes for orientation, and do other volunteer work for East. I was new to musical theater last semester, but the environment they showed was very welcoming and inviting,” senior Josefina Diaz said.
Diaz has been involved in various extracurricular activities throughout their years at East, for example Avenue Scholars, Scarlet Squad, and during their senior year they first joined East’s theatre department for its production of “The Addams Family Musical.”
East has had a profound impact on Diaz, from the classes to the extracurricular activities but their favorite part of East is the opportunities for students to get involved in the community and to be able to explore future careers.
“The opportunities they have for the students, like going on college visits and the volunteer opportunities they have as well,” Diaz said.
Diaz’s favorite class they have taken at East was Avenue Scholars, they first joined during their junior year, and it has continued to open up opportunities for them to be successful in the future.
“I would say my junior year when I first joined Avenue Scholars, and the teacher would always be there for me, and I would always know how to approach her when I needed advice,” Diaz said.
After high school Diaz plans to major in hospitality at Grand Canyon University, and continue an internship offered by their employers.
“So, currently I have decided to attend Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. I plan on continuing my current internship at my job,” Diaz said.
A teacher at East that has had the most profound impact on Diaz was the Spanish 3 teacher Mrs. MacDonald, as she heavily encouraged Diaz during her time at East.
“I would say Mrs. MacDonald, she was there for me and encouraged me to seek out opportunities and she was there for me since my sophomore year,” Diaz said.
MacDonald thinks very highly of Diaz and considers her an inspiration to her peers.
“Josefina is one of the most dedicated students to enhancing her own opportunities. She actively looks for ways to grow,” Kristin MacDonald, Spanish 3 teacher said.
“When I talk about Josefina going on to be someone influential, she not only wants her own success but also the success of others, one of my favorite things about her is how she is always looking for ways to support and encourage the people around her,” MacDonald said.
MacDonald speaks very highly of Diaz and how they do not just seek their own success but also the success of those around them, and how this shows that Diaz is the model for a hardworking student, who seeks opportunities when they arise.
Diaz always knows when to step up into a leadership role when no one else will, and how to carve out their own success in life, Diaz serves as an inspiration to many people as to what it means to work hard to achieve your goals for yourself.
